Published annually by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Either/Or Magazine accepts submissions from August to April. In particular, we are looking to highlight writing that envisions how individuals might recommit themselves to community and language, illuminating new and exciting engagements with the aesthetic, the ethical, and the numinous. Please send us your stories, essays, poetry, artwork and hybrid texts for consideration.
How to Submit: Either/Or Magazine only accepts submissions electronically from August 1st to April through our Submittable system and are unable to accept hard copy submissions through postal services or email.
Formatting and Word Count: Please submit all poetry and prose manuscripts as a single .doc or .docx file. Art/Image submissions should be submitted as .JPEG. All manuscripts should be in 12-point type, with at least one-inch margins, and sequentially numbered pages. Prose submissions should be double-spaced, while poetry should be single-spaced. Please limit prose submissions to 8,000 words and poetry to five poems with a total page count of 12 pages or less.
Cover Page: Please include a cover page with your submission that includes your name, address, telephone number, email address, and a brief biographical note.
Simultaneous Submissions: We accept simultaneous submissions, but please notify us as soon as a piece has been accepted elsewhere.
Response Time: Our response time varies depending on the amount of submissions. If we have not responded to your submission within 3 months, feel free to reach out to inquire about its acceptance.
Submission Fees: Either/Or is a nonprofit organization with a small operating budget provided by subscriptions, submission fees, student fees, and by the generosity of individual patronage. As such, we charge submission fees on a sliding scale of $3-$5. All fees go directly to the cost of operation and publication. If you are unable to afford our submission fee at this moment, please reach out to us and we will gladly waive it.
Payment to Authors: Regrettably, Either/Or Magazine is not currently able to offer payment for accepted work, though we are working diligently to be able to do so in the future.
Author Rights: Authors of work accepted to Either/Or Magazine retain copyright while granting the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons XX License.
Questions/Difficulties: Please contact us at eitherormagazine@gmail.com if you have any questions or difficulties with your submission.
